This week's featured download comes from Canadian alt-rockers Downhere. The band has been around for 13 years now but for those of you
that aren’t too familiar with the band, here are some facts you should
know: 1. Who is Downhere?
Downhere is a Canadian alt-rock band that hit the U.S. music scene in
2001 with the release of their self-titled debut. Their combination of
powerful vocals, intelligent lyrics, and commitment to ministering to
their audiences, helped earn them a Dove Award nomination for New Artist
of the Year, a Juno Award for Best Gospel Album, and Canadian Gospel
Music Association Covenant Awards for Rock Album of the Year and Rock
Song of the Year (for “Larger Than Life”). 2. What is the focus of the band/mission statement?
“Since the beginning,” says the band’s bass player, Glenn Lavender,
“we’ve tried to be a band that remained down-to-earth. We always want to
be real and accessible to the kids where we play. We talk to them, play
soccer, hang out, pray with them. When they see that we’re real people
sharing this journey of faith with them, it gives our music a different
voice in their lives.”
While Downhere is comfortable in their role as ministers to the church,
they’ve long sought to maintain a standard of honesty in expression that
intrigues and draws nonbelievers into conversation as well. “We throw a
lot into our ‘vulnerability box’ and really try to be relatable to the
audience,” Jason explains. “People can sense the fact that when we sit
down to write a song we’re really pouring ourselves into it, so there’s a
humanness they relate to.” 3. What can you expect on their new record that’s out today?
The record Downhere releasing today is called Love and History: The Best Of Downhere. It features fan favorites including “Here I Am,” “Let Me Rediscover You,” “My Last Amen,” “How Many Kings,” and many more.

North Point Music Artist and worship leader Seth Condrey’s newest
project started with a question: “If there were no music industry or no
North Point, but I still loved people and wanted them to connect with
God, what would I write?”
The answer is found on Keeps On Changing, an album that
sheds many of the conventions of current worship music in favor of
something more personal. “Starting out my music career as a dad and a
husband, I had this ideal of what I wanted to become,” he explains. But
looking back, instead of that ideal he sees “a story of the grace of God
making me into the husband and father I need to be.” Listeners will
find that theme running through most of the album’s songs from the first
single “Speechless” to the closer “Your Kingdom.”
Seth Condrey’s lastest album Keeps On Changing was released August 27. I was introduced to his music, loved it and wanted to share it with you.
So this week you can get a free download is his song off his latest album. I hope you enjoy it and will pick up your copy of the
album available everywhere now!
From the beginning of their existence, scarecrows have served but one
purpose—to keep things out. By definition they are not welcoming or
attractive. They exist to repel. In 2013, there are scarecrows
everywhere…erected by hate, discrimination, fear, apathy… In every
political, social and, sadly, religious institution, there are those
whose sole purpose has become that of a scarecrow—to keep others away.
Those who are different are kept out. Those who don’t wear the correct
uniform are ostracized. Those who have been beaten down by life and
humanity are further pummeled downwards by those who have redefined
themselves in terms of superiority and piety.
Armed with truth, defiant against injustice and guided by love, they
have channeled this battle cry against hypocrisy in their first studio
project in five years…aptly called, Scarecrow. “This was in
God’s timing,” shares TJ. “We just wanted to create music that really
resonated. The point is to glorify God through the gifts He’s given us.”
You know what today is? ITS DECYFER DOWN ALBUM RELEASE DAY! Their new
album Scarecrow is available everywhere for purchase now and that’s
something to get excited about.
