Many years ago I heard that Aldi had inexpensive produce.  Still I didn’t enter the store for another year until someone told me there were really good bargains. I wish someone would have told me then how much money I was wasting on many items at Walmart.  The difference in price is astronomical on many very comparable items.

Fast forward several years and now our family has many favorite items at Aldi beyond the great produce!  I never buy bread, butter or eggs anywhere else, and I can’t find flour tortillas, salsa, baking supplies for less anywhere without a coupon.  I could go on and on about how much I love Aldi, but the point is, I wish I’d known about them sooner.

Aldi Weekly Ad: 9/5/12- 9/11/12

Here are a few tips to remember before shopping at Aldi’s:

• Aldi’s accepts ONLY cash, debit or EBT cards.
• Aldi’s requires you to bring your own bags (or you can purchase them for $.06 per bag at the store.)
• You’ll need to pay a quarter to use a cart at Aldi’s. When you return the cart, you’ll get the quarter back.
• Aldi’s does not accept manufacturer coupons (however they have had a few Aldi’s Store coupons recently in a few local papers.)
• As far as I can tell, the Aldi’s sale ad varies by store. To view your store’s ad, go HERE.

Aldi’s Weekly Ad (North Carolina 9/5/12 – 9/11/12):

Cooking with the FREE & Cheap – Broccoli Fettucicne Alfredo (Aldi shopping)

My son loves Broccoli Alfredo.... I thought I would share this recipe with you.  :)  If you missed the post yesterday regarding shopping at Aldi's, you may want to take a peek.

Broccoli Fettucini Alfredo

Ingredients:

• 8oz. cream cheese, cut into small pieces – Aldi brand- cost $0.89
• ¾ Parmesan cheese – Aldi brand – cost about $0.75
• ½ cup butter, cut into small pieces – Aldi brand on sale for $1.99 – cost $0.50
• ¾ cup milk, use 2% or higher – cost about $0.20
• 1 tsp dried basil
• A pinch of nutmeg
• Black pepper to taste
• 8 oz. fettucini noodles 
• Broccoli crowns – $1.49 at Aldi

How to Shop at Aldi and is it Worth it?

I was browsing through our forums and stumbled upon Aldi.  “Is Aldi worth it” people have asked me.  It’s all about learning how the store works and whether it’s right for you.  Here are some Aldi Basics:

• Bring your own bags, as you do all of your own bagging after the cashier throws everything into a cart. (regular grocery bags are for sale at the checkout. When you buy the last few of an item, take the box it came in.)
• Leave the checkbook, credit cards and the, *GASP* coupons at home. Aldi doesn’t take ANY of those!!  But they do accept Debt Cards (you must enter your pin), EBT cards and of course cash.
• Pay attention to the times and days it’s open, then go early in the week and day. Lines tend to be longer in the afternoon when people get off work.  Also, I suggest if your a once-a-month Aldi shopper to go later in the month.  The reason is simple, government assistance comes once a month, usually early in the month. (This includes SNAP.)  The lines will generally be longer at that time, so to avoid waiting and long lines it’s best to go late in the month!
