Every shopper has go-to brands. We feel loyal, and we like to use familiar items. That loyalty is also one obstacle to becoming a couponer. Learn to buy other brands in order to save money. You can live without Evian water, Tide detergent and Wheaties cereal. When you have great sales to match with coupons, you can branch out and perhaps find an equal or superior product for less!
Just In: A big advantage to being loyal to coupons rather than brands is the ability to try the newest products. When manufacturers launch new products, they often entice buyers with a high-value coupon. Some new customer favorites include Quiltvent Band-Aids, Kraft Fresh Takes breadcrumbs, King’s Hawaiian hamburger buns, and Kotex Natural Balance feminine products.
Be Flexible: Don’t be afraid to try a new product or a different brand. Add some variety to your rotation by branching out with new flavors and varieties. If there’s a taste you can’t live without, try looking at the “on sale” brands with similar ingredients.
Store Brands: When there just aren’t coupons for what you need (such as cream soups in the middle of summer or BBQ sauce in the winter), try the store brand or the generic to tide you over until the next sale cycle. Many times, generics are manufactured by the same company as the name brand.
