Our Trip to the Mountains (March 2012)

You won't usually find personal posts on this blog so if you're reading this looking for coupons, you may want to skip it.  :)  My family visited the NC mountains last weekend and I wanted to share a little about our visit.  We visit the Blowing Rock, NC and Boone, NC area several times a year (we love it!).

For this particular trip, I purchased a discounted gift certificate for the Dan'l Boone Inn a while back....this happens to be one of my son's favorite places to eat.  I also a discounted gift certificate for Mystery Hill, which is somewhere we've wanted to visit but just never found the time to go while in the area.

First of all, Mystery Hill was awesome (check it out their website here)!  I know we will definitely visit again.  :)   We all loved the Mystery House where there is a stronger than average pull to the north which causes some of your basic laws of physics to work differently than normal.  As you enter, you notice the gravitational pull which causes your body to be at a 45° angle even though you're trying to stand at a 90° angle. Aaron really enjoyed watching a ball and water flow up hill.  Here I am standing in the Mystery House.
As you can see, Aaron also enjoyed being put inside a giant bubble!  :)

They truly had something for everyone to enjoy....we will be visiting again.    As we left Mystery Hill, we noticed Doc's Rocks Gem Mine next door,  which is the only education based gem mining operation in North Carolina.  We were impressed...so impressed we went back to visit again before we came home.  Here is a picture of Aaron doing on of his digs, you can see Doc coming to assist.  :)  Doc was super great with the kiddos; he would teach them all about what they've found, where it came from and how it formed.

Aaron found lots of nice gems;  we decided to have two of them cut.  He found a beautiful Amethyst and Ruby.  As you can see below, Doc cut the Amethyst into a beautiful pear shape and he cut the Ruby into an oval (yes, he personally does all the gem cutting by hand!).  I received these in the mail today and I thought they were beautiful so I just had to share.  Now what should I do with them?  Any suggestions?
