Changes to Rite Aid’s +Up Reward Program

Beginning on September 2, members of Rite Aid’s Wellness+ program will have their +Up Rewards automatically loaded to their Wellness+ card. They are calling this the Load2Card feature. Before you have a nervous breakdown (I know, I don’t like change either!), read the following details. Keep in mind that you must have a Wellness+ account to participate in the +Up Reward program.

This is what they said on their Facebook Page today:
To offer even more value and convenience, we’re excited to announce the chainwide rollout of our Load2Card +UP feature! All of your +UPs will now be automatically loaded to your wellness+ card – no more having to keep track of your paper receipts! If you prefer, you’ll still have the option to receive +UPs on your register receipts rather than having them loaded to your wellness+ card.
This will officially go into effect on Sunday, Sept. 2, at all Rite Aid Pharmacy locations. If you have any questions, check out our Load2Card +UP FAQs and read more about how to get them to load to your card here.
 Here's the specs:
  • Rite Aid’s +Up Rewards will still be earned the same way. When you make a qualifying purchase, you will earn a +Up Reward for a specified dollar amount. The +Up Reward will then be used like cash on a future purchase.
  • You CAN elect to continue to have your +Up Rewards printed at the bottom of your receipt, as they have in the past, if you prefer having the piece of paper to having the reward loaded to your card.
  • A +Up Reward can be redeemed starting at 6:00 a.m. on the day after it was earned. It will expire 14 days after it was issued.
  • You can text “REWARD” to “RATEXT” on your mobile phone, and Rite Aid will send you a text each week. This text will tell you the number and value of the +Up Rewards you still have available on your card.
  • You can also manage your +Up Rewards online by signing in to your Online Wellness+ Account.
  • According to Rite Aid’s press release regarding these changes, the Load2Card feature for +Up Rewards was successfully piloted in four cities for seven months.
The issue that I see is that the Load2Card +UPs are processed for redemption by the value of the +UP, meaning the Highest value +UPs will be redeemed first.  This gives us less control over which +UP we want to use and when.  It seems that opting to use the paper +UP’s may be a better option for this issue. Things change with couponing all the time, and we can still save money but just get used to the new policies.  I am not going to lie though, this change was a disappointment to me and I am not too sure how I feel about shopping at Rite Aid much anymore.

What do you think about this, good or bad?  Will this affect your Rite Aid shopping?
